Volunteer Story

Volunteer Story:
Miss Jangmi Rongpipi, a student of class 11 commmerce stream in Delhi Public School,New Delhi did volunteer at Parijat Academy. She wrote her experience ………

I had just given my class 10 board exams in new delhi in INDIA.I was free all day and had no work to do except watching TV and hearing the i-pod.All my friends would call me for parties and movies.......initially I did attend some of those as well when I decided to go to my hometown-ASSAM which is on the north eastern part of India. One fine day I was googling about NGO’S and since that day only I had the urge to be a part of an NGO.So I told my parents that i wanted to teach underprivileged children during my vacations. My brother knew Mr.Uttam Teron who is the principal of Parijat Academy which provides free education for underprivileged children and also a very well established institute about which I had read in various famous magazines in INDIA.So that was how it all started. On my first day I had mixed emotions.....I was nervous as well as excited and I was wondering how the children or even the teachers would react to me but as soon as it started it turned out to be an unforgettable experience. The teachers were all warm and welcoming and at the end i became really good friends with most of them. The children were a lot of fun.I was allotted to take care of nursery to class 4.The kindergarten kids were the most amazing and i had spent maximum amount of time with them.I taught them English,Hindi ,Maths and social science. Some children were very naughty and they were disobedient when it started since i was very young as compared to the other teachers.......Slowly and slowly days went by and i became more and more comfortable with everyone.I was also told to take weak children into my fold. Now that posed a challenge for me........there was a little communication gap also and since they were weak it was very difficult for me to teach them. But there is something for which i would like to thank PARIJAT ACADEMY –a month before my volunteering i was extremely scared of animals like cows and goats and the compound of the school would have cows and goats and various other animals in enormous numbers roaming around the fields and the corridors .I would run around and all the students there would glare at me and laugh......

And then one day i realised that it was time to go back.........that upsetted me a lot as i started enjoying life there with the kids.I had no other option but to leave behind PARIJAT ACADEMY....
So i went back to DELHI and everyone said that i had changed a lot....I actually had changed a lot.I was not scared of animals at all,i learnt how to tolerate hot weather and i had learnt the art of mixing up with new people........
THANK YOU PARIJAT AND I MISS U!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
